Research:

  1. Behaviour and ecology of the parasitic reindeer oestrids (Diptera: Oestridae: Hypoderma tarandi (warble fly) and Cephenemyia trompe (nose or throat bot fly).
  2. Zoogeography, faunistics and host tree selection of bark inhabiting beetles (Scolytidae, Cerambycidae and Curculionidae).
  3. Life cycle strategies (cold hardiness, diapause, eclosion timing, cyclicity) in the autumnal and winter moths (Geometridae: Epirrita autumnata and Operophtera brumata).
  4. Biology of the reindeer sinus worm (Pentastomida: Linguatula arctica).

Insect collections:

In charge of the entomological collections (picture) at Tromsų Museum, http://www.muspro.uio.no.

They consist of more 120 000 insect specimens, mostly from northern Norway . The butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera), collected by J. Sparre Schneider (1877-1918), are particularly valuable. Information about all insect specimens can be accessed by means of newly developed digital database, so far only offline (more information here).
